Selective Mutism Group Intensive 
SM Brave Camp

SM Group Intensive (Brave Camp) provides opportunity for children with SM to practice their skills in a group format during an extended period of time. Group participants are matched based on age and clinical need to offer appropriate environment for talking practice. Groups targets talking practice and development of pragmatic speech skills.

Camp Preparation

Intake Session (if new to CFTC)

SM Evaluation to affirm diagnostics and time for our clinical team to learn your child, their needs, and prior response to treatment. Camp requires that our team be highly aware of each child’s goals and needed supports. We dedicate extensive time to preparing for each child. Intake will be with either Eleanor Ezell, LCSW, or Kristin Mathis, CCC-SLP, to support our learning of your child’s SM.

Behavioral Observation

Behavior observation allows our team to see the current impairment and response to evidence-based skill in a controlled environment. We will use the SM-BOT to support evaluation and begin fade-ins is session allows based on progress.

Lead-In Sessions

Lead-in sessions are required to ensure each child has met treatment goals prior to being in the classroom setting with the group. To support treatment gains and ensure readiness, each child will be speaking with 2 adults and in front of 1-2 other children to be considered “ready” for Brave Camp.

A minimum of 2 lead-in hours are required.

Brave Camp: 5 Day!

Follow Up Debrief Call

One of our clinical staff with meet with you for a 30 minute virtual post-camp consultation to discuss camp gains. Our team will also made treatment recommendations to support the transition into the new school year.

Parent Training

Parent training will occur for 1-2 hours prior to camp days, during camp days (time TBD) and 1-2 hours after camp completion. Parent training supports learning, implementation and supports parents to develop the ability to support children after camp in other environments.
